ABSTRACT:

Background: -MTP is also called the medical termination of pregnancy. MTP is the safe legal procedure for abortion performed by the qualified registered medical practitioner in a approved hospital. The aim of the study was to improve the knowledge of the reproductive age group women (18-45years) regarding the Medical Termination of pregnancy (MTP). A Quantitative research was used to assess the effectiveness of video assisted teaching programme related to knowledge regarding the Medical Termination of pregnancy (MTP) among reproductive age group women (18-45years). The non- probability purposive sampling technique was used to select 60 women of reproductive age group (18-45years) in selected area of district Chamba, Himachal Pradesh. A semi structured knowledge questionnaire was used to assess the level of knowledge. Analysis of collected data was done according to the objectives of the study and data analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. The study showed that out of60 women. 11.6% was 18-24years, 18.33% was 25-31years, 40% was 32-38years, 30% was 39-45years. According to the findings, the pre-test level of knowledge score of reproductive age group (18-45years) women 0% women had good knowledge, 31.6% women had average knowledge, 61.3% women had poor knowledge and the post-test level of knowledge score of reproductive age group (18-45years) women 83.3% women had good knowledge, 16.6% women had average knowledge and 0% women had poor knowledge score. It was concluded that video assisted teaching programme was an effective strategy in improving knowledge of reproductive age group women (18-45years) regarding the MTP (Medical termination of Pregnancy)

INTRODUCTION:

Pregnancy is the time during in which one or more offspring develops inside a women’s womb. Pregnancy is occurs due to sexual intercourse, but can also occur through assisted reproductive technique. Childbirth typically occurs around 37-42 weeks (284 days). In this time the one or more offspring develops inside the womb is called Multiple pregnancy. According to ICMR, almost half of the maternal death is the 15-19 age groups are due to unsafe abortions. Induced termination of pregnancy whether in hands of skilled or unskilled persons leading to increase incidence of maternal mortality and morbidity. MTP is refer to be as induction of abortion and legalized by MTP act of 1971.

RESEARCH PROBLEM:

A Quasi experimental study to assess the effectiveness of video assisted teaching programme on knowledge regarding MTP among the reproductive age group women (18-45years) in a selected areas of District Chamba (H.P)

OBJECTIVE:

1.    To assess pre- test knowledge of reproductive age group women (18-45years) regarding the MTP

2.    To evaluate the effectiveness of video assisted teaching program among reproductive age group women (18-45years) regarding MTP through conducting the post-test

3.    To compare the pre-test and post-test knowledge regarding MTP among reproductive age group women (18-45years).

4.    To find out the association between the post-test knowledge score with socio demographical variables.

HYPOTHESIS:

H01: There will be a no significant difference between pre-test and post-test knowledge scores regarding medical termination of pregnancy.

H1:     There will be a significant difference between pre-test and post-test knowledge scores regarding medical termination of pregnancy.

H02: There will be a no significant association between post-test knowledge scores with demographical variables.

H2:   There will be significant association between post-test knowledge scores with demographical variables.

The data depicted in table 3 showed that mean score of pre-tests is 9.58 and mean score of post-tests is 22.23. After applying T-pair test, it was found calculated value i.e., 43.70 which was significant at p<0.05 level. It is inferred that the mean post-test score was greater than the mean pre-test score.

Hence, research hypothesis H1 was accepted. There will be a significant difference between pre-test and post-test knowledge scores regarding medical termination of pregnancy

Association of post-test knowledge score with socio demographic variables of reproductive age group women (18-45years) selected area of district Chamba

Hence it was concluded that association of post- test knowledge scores with the socio demographic variables of women in the reproductive age group (18-45years) was not significantly with age, occupation, no. of living children. There it was significant association with education, religion, residence and no. of past MTP. The calculated value for education chi square= 53.8, df=3, p=>0.05, religion chi square= 12.84, df=3, p=>0.05, residence chi square=6.61, df=2, p=>0.05, no of past MTP chi square= 12.84, df=3, p=>0.05.

Hence, research hypothesis H2 was accepted.

There will be significant association between post-test knowledge scores with demographical variables.

DISCUSSION:

Based on the objective of the study revealed that post-test knowledge score of women regarding MTP, 83.3% women had good knowledge,16.6% women had average knowledge and 0% women had poor knowledge score.

CONCLUSION:

The finding of the study revealed that the women had low knowledge regarding MTP. After video assisted teaching programme the knowledge of the women has been improved. Hence, video assisted teaching programme has been improved was an effective strategy in increasing the knowledge of mother regarding MTP.

IMPLICATION OF THE STUDY:

Nursing practices:

·      A Midwifery nurse can assume more responsibility and accountability to give the information to the reproductive age group women regarding the MTP.

·      A Midwifery nurse can be helpful in educating the reproductive age group women about the MTP.

·      A nurse educator needs to be equipped with adequate knowledge regarding MTP among the reproductive age group women.

Nursing Education:

·      Nursing should encourage their reproductive age group women regarding MTP.

Nursing Research:

·      Disseminate the finding of research through conference, seminar and publishing in nursing research.

·      Research should be directed towards exploring to assess the effectiveness of video teaching programme.

·      Encourage for research further research to be conduct regarding MTP.

Nursing administration:

·      Nurse administrator should organize awareness programme in community area regarding the MTP.

·      Nurse administrator should provide the awareness to community people regarding MTP.

·      Nurse administrator can provide the video teaching programme to the reproductive age group women regarding MTP.

·      Nurse administrator should emphasize and encourage the women.
